What are you going to do tomorrow?

“The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy.”

Kalu Ndukwe Kalu

What did you do today that will have a lasting impact? Was there anything you did that will have meaning one year from today?

There is no better way to create a life of meaning and impact than by measuring your daily success based on what you did for someone else.

So, what are you going to do tomorrow?

Why wait for tomorrow?

“The most satisfying thing in life is to have been able to give a large part of one’s self to others.”

Pierre Teilhard de Chardin

When life is over, and you have breathed your last breath on this earth, what will matter more, how much you managed to get, or how much you gave away? The things you collected or the lives you touched?

While this sounds morbid we all have to accept the fact that life will end one day for each of us. We don’t know when, where or how, yet we know an ending will come. Why should we wait until the end to start giving back? Why put off making a difference in the lives of others to some day in the future that might not come?

Hopefully all of us are many decades away from the end of our time here on this earth. Think how much of a difference we could each make in the world if we just gave a large part of ourselves away to others every single day.

What can you start doing today? How are you going to give of yourself to help someone else?

Legacy…

“The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy.”

Kalu Ndukwe Kalu

What is the legacy you want to leave behind? I have heard some say that they don’t care about their legacy, that it isn’t important to them. I feel sorry for those people because they haven’t experienced the joy of giving, the value in serving others over self, the priceless gift of seeing others perpetuate that same spirit of giving to others.

I am reminded of this verse from Luke on greed and serving oneself. “Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.” Luke‬ ‭12:15‬

What is the defined and intentional legacy you want to leave? Do you have a plan to make it happen? Are your thoughts, words, actions and behaviors attuned to that desire? If not then what needs to change? No matter what, you will leave a legacy, what do you want it to be about?

“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew‬ ‭6:19-21‬

Create your legacy through the journey…

“It’s the journey that matters, soak it in.  Learn lessons out of it.  Impact positively so that if you never get to your destination, at least you’d leave a legacy to be remembered.”

Emem Uko

I need to get this quote tattooed on the inside of my eyelids. Actually, I simply need to meditate and reflect on this sentiment regularly so that I can ensure that I am focused on what is truly important and make the necessary adjustments when I lose perspective. I’d much rather be remembered for how I behaved along the journey than whether or not I reached my destination.

Where are you on your journey? Are you focused on the destination or the trip itself?
