Are you prepared to conquer?

“Energy & persistence conquer all things.”

Benjamin Franklin

What are the big things that you want to accomplish this year?

Will they happen by default, or will you have muster resources to enable success? I imagine that if your goals are like mine, they aren’t going to happen without a lot of dedicated and focused effort. And, if they are really good goals, the kinds that stretch you and move you out of your comfort zone, persistence will be necessary because you are likely to experience setbacks and failures along the way.

So, what will you do today to invest energy into moving your goals forward? How are you preparing your mind for setbacks so that you can acknowledge them, learn, and then continue to move forward when they inevitably occur?

In life are you the iron or the anvil?

“We are made to persist. That’s how we find out who we are.”

Tobias Wolff

Can you imagine who you would be today if you had never been tested or challenged? Those things that are our most significant challenges at the moment are merely the building blocks of the person we are supposed to become. Without them, we are only a shadow of the person we were created to be and can’t serve others in the fullest capacity.

Embrace the opportunities to persist; those moments are the crucible where something extraordinary is being forged.  We can either choose to be the iron being crafted into something beautiful or we can choose to be the anvil, unmovable and unchanging.

Just keep swimming…

“Ambition is the path to success. Persistence is the vehicle you arrive in.”

Bill Bradley

Ambition can have a negative connotation linked to ego or selfishness but I prefer to think of it in the context of having a strong goal or a pervasive vision.

Persistence is…

Just one more time…

Don’t quit now, you’re almost there…

No matter what, just one foot in front of the other…

Tomorrow is a brand new day and another day closer to your goal…

No matter how good your vision is you have to have persistence in order to achieve your goals…

Extraordinary perseverance…

“With ordinary talent and extraordinary perseverance, all things are attainable.”

Thomas Fowell Buxton

I love the “ordinary talent” part of this quote. Ordinary talent combined with extreme drive, grit and determination; that is what gets it done. I have known people with extraordinary talent that didn’t have the drive and the perseverance and it is heartbreaking to see that kind of talent go to waste.

You can’t teach perseverance. It comes through struggles, failures, getting the crap knocked out of you, and getting back up again. It is an attitude by which you live your life, not content with simply sitting back and being content with what you have.

I’ll take ordinary talent and extraordinary perseverance every day of the week…

What does P.I.G. mean to you?

“Think P.I.G. – that’s my motto. P stands for Persistence, I stands for Integrity, and G stands for Guts. These are the ingredients for a successful business and a successful life.”

Linda Chandler

What do these things mean to you?

Persistence – Never giving up.  Overcoming whatever life throws at you.  Whatever it takes to to get the job done.  Over.  Under.  Around or through any obstacles.

Integrity – Never compromising on your values and ensuring that your actions manifest your beliefs at all times.

Guts – Having the courage to do both of the above, no matter what anyone else might think about you.
