“Without forgiveness, there is no future.”
Archbishop Desmond Tutu
A few months ago, a friend and mentor recommended a book that truly encapsulates the profound wisdom of these two spiritual giants. “The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World” is a collection of enlightening conversations between Archbishop Desmond Tutu and His Holiness, the Dalai Lama, offering insights into the power of intentional gratitude and forgiveness.
I was blown away by the amount of adversity both of these men had faced in their lives, and yet, despite this, they are profoundly happy. It is so easy to get anchored in what you don’t have or the inevitable unfairness of life. Yet, those who are happy have chosen to be so. Just this morning, I was reading another book, and this quote resonated and aligned with the one I chose for today: “Forgiveness is the greatest gift you can give yourself.” Maya Angelou
So, without forgiveness, you have no future. This is what Malachy McCourt must have meant when he said, “Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.”
Today are you intentionally taking poison or the antidote?
