“Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.”
C.S. Lewis
Humility is hard. The minute you tell people you are humble or have a high degree of humility, you have lost it. As I was crafting the core values for the Arcqus Group, I spent a lot of time thinking about humility and my desire to instill a servant’s mindset from the very beginning. I knew this word had to be in our values, but I questioned how to include it authentically and appropriately. As I wrestled with this challenge, I remembered a favorite quote from St. Francis of Assisi, “It is no use walking anywhere to preach unless our walking is our preaching.” This reminder unlocked how to include humility transparently and meaningfully via behaviors demonstrating the value. In each Arcqus core value, I have specifically included a list of behaviors to capture and exemplify how the value comes to life for myself and others. I encourage you to think through with specificity how your values show up in life; that is what others see, and that is what values are. These are demonstrations of the words in action; they are the preaching.

Arcqus Group Core Value #3 – “Humility:”
Humility: We lead with humility, always prioritizing what is right over who is right. With a servant’s heart, our mission is to serve others and help them achieve their fullest potential. Ego has no place in our leadership; instead, we elevate others and cultivate a culture of mutual respect and collaboration.
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.” Philippians 2:3
Behaviors that Demonstrate This Value:
- Active Listening: Listen attentively to others, valuing their input and perspectives, even when they differ from your own.
- Recognition of Others: Regularly acknowledge and celebrate the contributions of others, giving credit where it is due.
- Willingness to Learn: Openly admit when you don’t have all the answers and seek out opportunities to learn from others, regardless of their position or experience level.
- Service to Others: Go out of your way to support colleagues, offering help and resources without expecting anything in return.
- Team Success Over Personal Glory: Prioritize the team’s success over personal recognition, ensuring that collective goals are met before individual ambitions.
