Ownership: Hold yourself accountable to the standard first…

I’m a big fan of Jocko Willink’s book, “Extreme Ownership.” The lessons imparted are easy to read and hard to execute. Being able to look in the mirror and OWN the outcome is one of the most liberating and impactful traits possible for leaders. Teaching and instilling this trait in the rest of your team is one of the most effective ways of increasing the performance of the team and organization. The power of an organization that OWNS it is simply incredible. To do it, you must own it, teaching by example is the only way this works.

  1. Accountability: Take full responsibility for your actions, decisions, and their outcomes, both positive and negative, without shifting blame.
  2. Proactive Problem Resolution: When issues arise, take immediate steps to address them rather than waiting for others to act or for the problem to escalate.
  3. Follow-Through: Consistently follow through on commitments and tasks, ensuring that nothing falls through the cracks.
  4. Reflective Learning: After completing a project or task, take the time to reflect on what went well and what could be improved, using these insights to guide future actions.
  5. Commitment to Excellence: Hold yourself to the highest standards of performance, continuously striving to exceed expectations.
