Are you willing to be authentic?

The ability to step into the void, understand you don’t know everything and never will, and have faith that there is a bigger purpose and force in life is challenging. Embracing this and choosing to follow something you can never fully understand but believe with your entire being is faith.

While working through the core values, logo design, and other elements for Arcqus Group, I received feedback that I should eliminate any references to my Christian faith from the work. I understood and appreciated the input, but to do so would be inauthentic to who I am as a person, a leader, and a servant to others. I chose to include this as core value #1 because I want to be very transparent about what I believe and how that will guide my actions and interactions with others. Does this mean that others have to have precisely the same belief structure or see the world the same way I do? Of course not; these are our guiding principles, and I want to be open, transparent, and authentic in communication and intent as to who we are, what we believe, and how we will show up in service for others. I fully recognize that this might limit some engagements, but this isn’t about me preaching my faith; it is about conveying what we believe and how it will guide our actions and engagements. In addition, my beliefs have framed my approach to leadership and service to others. Leadership is service, and my belief structure has formed much of my philosophy and approach. 

I recently read, and then reread, the book, “The Book of Joy: Lasting Happiness in a Changing World” by The Dalai Lama and Desmond Tutu. I particularly appreciated that the conversation between these two great men wasn’t about WHO is right but was focused on WHAT is right and how to show up in life in a manner that creates joy and happiness. My intent with this core value is to convey what I, and we believe and how this will guide our actions and engagements. Transparency is critical in building trust, and this is me living that virtue out loud.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3: 5-6

Behaviors that Demonstrate This Value:

  1. Transparent Communication: Communicate regularly with team members, clients, and stakeholders openly and honestly, sharing successes and challenges without withholding information.
  2. Integrity in Action: Consistently make decisions that align with ethical principles rooted in Christian teachings, even when those decisions are difficult or unpopular.
  3. Consistent Values: Ensure that your actions, both in public and private, align with your Christian values and the organization’s core principles, avoiding hypocrisy or double standards.
  4. Direct but Compassionate Feedback: Provide truthful, direct feedback with empathy, focusing on growth.
  5. Give Grace & Forgiveness: Just as we receive Grace we don’t deserve, give this to others by seeking to understand and learn without judgment.
