Is there space for balance in your life?

“Balance is not something you find, it’s something you create.”

Jana Kingsford

Balance is not something you find; it’s something you create. Jana Kingsford’s words cut to the heart of a daily challenge many of us face. We often imagine balance as a perfect state we’ll eventually reach, a finish line where everything in life falls neatly into place. But the truth is, balance isn’t something you stumble upon—you must actively work to create, and it’s not easy.

The idea that life can ever be perfectly balanced is a myth. In reality, there’s no such thing as balance, only balancing. It’s a constant, ongoing process that requires intention, effort, and, sometimes, sacrifice. It’s about making conscious choices every day, even when those choices are difficult. This raises a tough question: What intentional choices am I making today to create balance in my life?

Creating balance isn’t about achieving a flawless equilibrium. It’s about understanding what truly matters to you and ensuring those priorities guide your actions. It means recognizing that some days, you’ll feel like you’re juggling too much and dropping the ball, and that’s okay. Just make sure the balls you drop are rubber and not glass. The rubber ones will bounce back, but the glass ones—your most important relationships, your health, your core values—can shatter.

Balancing is messy, imperfect, and often feels like two steps forward, one step back. But in this ongoing act of balancing, there’s an opportunity to craft a life that aligns with your values and brings you fulfillment. It’s not about getting everything right; it’s about making the best choices you can at the moment, learning from the missteps, and adjusting as you go. Embracing the idea of balancing rather than balance allows you to let go of the pressure for perfection and instead focus on creating a meaningful life, even in its imperfections.
