It’s not selfish when you pause to rest…

“Rest and be thankful.”

William Wordsworth

In pursuing success, rest can feel like a luxury that’s hard to justify. However, this simple advice to “Rest and be thankful” carries a truth that’s easy to overlook. Rest isn’t about weakness; it’s about survival. Without it, even the strongest among us will eventually burn out. I struggle to appreciate and execute this, as I’m sure many of you do as well.

When we allow ourselves to rest, we create space to reflect—not just on our progress but on our journey. It’s a chance to acknowledge our struggles and be grateful for those who have walked beside us, even when the path is uncertain.

Gratitude is the key that deepens the impact of rest. It’s the tool that shifts our focus from what’s missing to what we have, reminding us of the abundance in our lives, even in moments of exhaustion. It’s the beacon of positivity that guides us through the darkest of times.

As you navigate leadership, remember that rest is not giving up; it’s choosing to continue with strength. Let gratitude guide your pauses, turning them into opportunities for renewal. On this Sunday, consider this: How can you allow yourself to rest and be thankful, not as a retreat, but as a way to nurture your resilience? In doing so, you may find that success isn’t just about the destination but about valuing every moment along the way, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant.
