Rest isn’t about the gap, it’s about the gain.

“Rest when you’re weary. Refresh and renew yourself, your body, your mind, your spirit. Then get back to work.”

Ralph Marston

It’s interesting to think about rest as something additive, not subtractive. We often view downtime through the lens of what we’re missing out on, rather than what we’re gaining.

One of my favorite books over the past few years is “The Gap and the Gain” by Dr. Benjamin Hardy. In it, Hardy challenges us to rethink how we measure success. Instead of focusing on the Gap, the distance between where we are and where we want to be, he urges us to focus on the Gain, the progress we’ve made from where we started. This shift in perspective builds fulfillment and resilience, turning progress into a source of energy rather than anxiety.

Rest isn’t the Gap where you’re missing out or wasting potential. Rest is the Gain; it’s how you prepare for what comes next, refuel for greater growth, and honor your journey.

Rest well, my friends.
