Fortune Favors the Bold: The Courage to Step Forward

“Fortune favors the bold.”

Virgil

When was the last time you made a bold decision? Not a reckless gamble, but a thoughtful leap that required courage and a willingness to embrace the unknown. Boldness isn’t about eliminating fear—it’s about moving forward despite it. It’s easy to hesitate, to convince ourselves we need more certainty. But what if the opportunity you’re hoping for is waiting on the other side of action?

Good Fortune is No Accident

We often think of “good fortune” as luck, as if it just happens. But the truth is, fortune often shows up when we’re prepared to meet it. Bold decisions—those deliberate actions that push us out of our comfort zones—set the stage for opportunity. Think about it: what bold move have you been avoiding? What’s one step you could take today to move closer to your goal?

If you’re wrestling with fear or uncertainty, I recommend Tim Ferriss’ TED Talk Why You Should Define Your Fears Instead of Your Goals. Ferriss outlines a simple but transformative approach to reframing fear as a tool for action, not paralysis. This is one of my all time favorite exercises.

What’s Your Bold Move?

Boldness doesn’t mean diving in without a plan. It means deciding that the fear of regret is greater than the fear of failure. Fortune favors those who are willing to take a chance, to lean into discomfort, and to trust that action creates opportunity. What’s your next bold step?
