“Perseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.”
Walter Elliot
I vividly recall standing at the starting line of my first Ironman race, gazing at the buoys looming in the distance and feeling daunted by the 2.4-mile swim ahead. Even though I knew I was physically prepared and had put in the hard work, it was still overwhelming. However, I also remember the calm that washed over me when I recalled the advice of a seasoned athlete and friend who had faced the same challenge. “Remember, you’re not swimming 2.4 miles all at once. Focus on reaching the next buoy, then the next, and then another. Eventually, you’ll be out of the water.”
He was right; this mindset can be applied to life and work when facing daunting and intimidating projects. Break it into manageable chunks, focus on the next step, and then another. Before you know it, you’ll have reached your goal, ready to take on the next leg of your journey.
